Snow lay meter-deep on the high mountain passes. When the snow wipes out the edges of the streets and country lanes, colourful snow poles reliably mark the correct path. The use, appearance and colour of the snow poles are not regulated in Switzerland. Each community has its own rules.
Over the course of several years Zurich based photographer and artist Patrik Fuchs collected hundreds of these. Back in his studio he photographed each one of them against the same neutral background. Removed from their original context and intended use they become poetic objects in their own rights.
The publication – published by Niggli – is the result of a close collaboration between Patrik Fuchs and Lorenz Tschopp.
